"Maibummel" 2023 - Wild West at the Stone Ranch
In a company that has been in business as long as Ramseier Treuhand AG, traditions develop over time. This includes the annual May stroll and the fact that it almost never takes place in May.
This year we were unfortunately somewhat decimated, but no less excited when we heard that we were going to a Wild West farm. Although rain and cold were our constant companions, we were excited when we arrived at the "Stone-Ranch" farm in Wegenstetten.
We were greeted by three men on horseback who looked as if they had come straight from the western USA of the 1870s to modern Switzerland.
To whet our appetites, an aperitif was prepared, including meat from the farm's own Black Angus cattle.
And then it was time for the show to begin. The three cowboys introduced themselves first. Among them was the farm manager, who was also in charge of the show. We were first shown how to control a horse and later how to use a lasso to best effect.
After this promising start, a couple of Black Angus calves were led into the ring, caught with a lasso in accordance with animal welfare regulations and driven into a fence with the help of the horses. Those expecting a rodeo didn't quite get their money's worth, but it was still a very impressive performance.
And now came the most important thing: dinner. In addition to the obligatory salad, there was also home-made sliced meat with various side dishes and a "cowboy bowl". Bud Spencer and Terence Hill would surely have turned pale with envy at the portions we were offered.
After the sumptuous meal, we were given a presentation and a tour of the "Stone Ranch". During this tour, we were able to see that these farmers are keeping up with the times and developing very innovative and exciting ideas to meet modern requirements.
Last but not least, there were various desserts, which, like the other culinary delights, were completely convincing. In addition to the dessert, the owners of the farm offered their very own coffee creation: Cowboy Coffee.
We found this offer very hard to resist, but in the end we all agreed that the cowboy coffee would be best served with a few extras.
And then it was time to say goodbye to the Western farm again, so we set off on our journey home with some memorable memories in our luggage.
